This week, we’ll travel to Kenya and meet a group of students from the Maasai tribe that had to leave their families. Girls who attend at the Kajiado Adventist School and Rescue Center have escaped child marriage, often at the risk of being disowned by their families. But fellow students and teachers at Kajiado become like family, and the girls also get to be a part of the Maranatha family when volunteers come to serve. Your kids will think about what it would be like without their family, and consider someone they can treat as family in their own life.

- In the Bible, there was a woman named Hannah who was unable to have children. You can read about her story in 1 Samuel 1. For years she asked God to give her a child. Finally, she promised that if God gave her a son, she would dedicate his entire life to God. Hannah became pregnant and after he was born, took him to live with Eli the prophet. Eli raised Samuel, who grew up into a great prophet of God. Even though Samuel didn’t live with his family growing up, Eli became his family. Who is someone in your community, school, or church that you could be family to, even if you don’t live with them?

Did You Know?
- The Kajiado School used to only go up to eighth grade. After that, students had to go to other high schools in the area with students and teachers that didn’t understand the hard things they had been through. But Maranatha agreed to build a high school at Kajiado so that these students could stay in their new home with their new family all the way until they graduated from 12th grade.
