This week, meet two dedicated church members in Peru who made great personal sacrifices to support their church community. A restaurant owner named Victor donated his garage as a meeting space for the congregation to meet in. Later, a new church member named Maria donated her house as a place to worship. Although both of these acts were generous, the meeting spaces still weren’t ideal—they were too small. The members really needed a proper church, but they didn’t have the money to build one. How would they realize this dream?

Your kids will see the lengths that some church members around the world go to in order to support their church community, and they’ll consider how they can help their own community.

- Victor and Maria’s actions are similar to how some of the very first Christians shared with each other. After Jesus returned to heaven, His disciples continued to tell everyone they met about His love. People wanted to join their community of people following what Jesus taught. These earliest Christians helped each other, took care of each other, and even fed each other. You can read about it in the Bible in Acts 4:32-37. How would taking care of the other people in your community be better than only taking care of yourself?
- Are there any people in your neighborhood or church community that you could take care of in some way? What ideas do you have for helping them?
